Al Shorooq Preschool and the Montessori Method

‘If you want something done well, do it yourself” is an adage that many of us subscribe to and Noora Albinkhalil, founder and director of Al Shorooq Preschool in Riffa, is no exception.*

Al Shorooq was created back in 2014 when Noora (who was also 8 months pregnant at the time), tried to find the ideal school in Bahrain for her then 3 year old, and couldn’t. So in true super-mum style, she decided to open her own.

Al Shorooq is a bilingual preschool and prepares students for all curricula, including British

Al Shorooq is based in Riffa, and accepts kiddies aged 3-6. It is also one of the few Montessori preschools in Bahrain.

The Montessori method, developed by Dr Maria Montessori, has been used around the world for over 100 years, and differs from the standard preschool approach in a number of key ways.

The learning environment is centred around the students, not the teachers, who are there to guide and assist the children in their personal growth and discovery.

Montessori activities are designed to be healthy and energetic…
…and of course, fun!

Montessori promotes a hands-on approach, with students learning from working and playing with materials (known as Montessori materials) rather than through direct instruction.

Al Shorooq currently offers ballet as an extracurricular activity
More activities such as science and soccer will be added in the future

And Montessori is designed to develop the child as a whole – physically, emotionally, socially and cognitively.

Collaboration can be fun – BEEP BEEP!

I had a wonderful time photographing the beautiful children

I’ve had the pleasure recently of spending time at Al Shorooq – watching English, PE and outdoor play activities, enjoying an extracurricular ballet performance, and getting lots of hugs from the super-sweet children. And I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.

But I ask you – where do they get their energy from?

And of course, Al Shorooq also has Noora at the helm.

Noora’s accomplishments are impressive (and actually deserve a blog post all on their own!). But very briefly, prior to opening the preschool, Noora qualified with a Bachelor of Education in Information and Educational Technology as well as a Master in Business Administration and Management. She is Montessori Certified by the Montessori Foundation, and has many years of experience working in the educational field. Noora is also a published author.

The positive feedback she receives from parents on their children’s growth brings Noora great joy
Noora’s aim is to maintain the most nurturing environment for the children
And she clearly enjoys spending time with the kiddies as well
