Italy, you have my heart – FACT June ’17

Italy has always had my heart. And my recent trip to the achingly beautiful Lake Como saw me leave just another little piece of it, right there. If you haven’t visited this glorious Mediterranean country yet, here are a few reasons why you need to jump on a plane and treat yourself to a trip there asap.

The food – imagine the most perfectly formed plate of handmade pasta, irresistibly al dente, worked through with a dash of local olive oil and topped with a sprinkling of shaved truffle. Imagine ingredients so simple, so fresh, and flavours so intense you can easily recall them days, even weeks later.

The beauty – Italy is remarkably beautiful, and that’s a fact. From the tiny mountain paths that wind themselves around the Cinque Terre to the fabulously grand man-made structures in faded terra cotta pinks and soft yellows, the country offers up Instagram worthy scenes every where you look.

The language – I can never tire of listening to the lilting sound of the Italian language, said to be the closest to Latin of the Romance languages and spoken by around 60 million people. It’s so wonderfully musical, and it’s easy to see why Italian has long been known as the language of love, in poetry and in opera.
